Is there a cream that will cure my [eczema, psoriasis, allergies, rash]. There are many factors that play a role in helping to tame red, inflamed skin. While skincare is crucial for helping reduce irritation and provide nourishment topically; diet, lifestyle and environmental factors play a large role.
Diet plays the largest role in skin health. In today’s society there are so many ingredients added to our food that didn’t exist years ago. Ingredients such as sodium nitrates/nitrites, artificial sweeteners, artificial flavors and colors, sodium benzoate, food dyes and canola oil to name a few. These ingredients are man made and have such a detrimental impact on our health.
Simple changes such as removing processed foods, caffeine, dairy, gluten, man-made sugar; while eating a diet full of fruits and vegetables can have a huge impact. There are countless documentaries and stories of people who’ve been able to overcome disease and ailments by switching their diets.
Lifestyle also plays a large role in skin health. We know by now that smoking and too much alcohol consumption negatively impacts our health. However, there are so many skincare, home and cleaning products on the market full of harmful ingredients. If you’ve ever had inflamed skin, you know understand how certain products can make it worse!
Environmental factors have another huge impact on our health. While there are many that are beyond our control, we do have the ability to reduce our exposure in what we can control.
Avoid outside areas that have recently been sprayed with pesticides.
Switch out candles and air fresheners that contain synthetic fragrance for those made with natural fragrances such as essential oils.
Use non-toxic home products, such as stainless steel or glass cookware.
Reduce the use of plastic especially when it comes to touching our food.
Avoid wrapping food directly in tinfoil.
Avoid commercial cleaning products. There are so many ways to make your own usingcommon household items… vinegar and water is one of my favorites.
